.
📯PCOS and Thyroid Disorders
.
📯It has been reported that hypothyroidism is common in women with PCOS compared to the normal population
.
📯This series will help you dig deeper to finding the underlying causes of your thyroid dysfunction or autoimmune response
.
📯Iodine
As indicated earlier; the thyroid must have iodine to make thyroid hormone. The main food sources of iodine include dairy products, chicken, beef, pork, fish, and iodized salt
.
📯The problem with dairy is that they are pathogen feeders; eggs for instance may become contaminated with harmful bacteria such as Salmonella, Listeria and E. coli not mentioning the fact that these foods have a barrage of hormones and antibiotics pumped into them
.
📯Soy
Eating large amounts of soy can inhibit the activity of thyroid peroxidase (TPO) and cause the thyroid to be inflamed. Not just soy milk; or produce -watch out for the ingredient soy protein isolate which is found in many bars, protein powders, cereals, and processed food
.
📯Gluten
Gliadin, the protein found in gluten is very similar to the hormone produced by the thyroid gland. The result is that the body thinks it has plenty of thyroid hormone and stops working as it should; try a gluten-free diet to see how your symptoms respond
.
📯Sugar
Hypothyroidism can worsen insulin resistance.
Sugary foods and drinks raise insulin levels. Avoiding sugar as much as possible is important
.
📯Besides the aforementioned; Many of the foods we eat on a daily basis strips the body of iodine- think high fructose syrup; white flour; carbonated drinks; energy drinks etc; even as simple as radiation from our cell phones can deplete our iodine reserves
.
📯If you have thyroid problems It is a good idea to get off the foods discussed to see how you feel
.
📯Tomorrow we will be sharing everyday foods; herbs and supplements that can help you manage PCOS
